Idex
is the preeminent source for information on expert witnesses.
No other database in the country has more information
on experts who have testified in or out of court than
Idex. With a database of over 1,000,000 records on over
200,000 individuals, Idex's success rate in being able
to find prior testimony on a given expert witness has
gone from under 30% in the mid 80's to over 85% in recent
years. The number of searches performed for clients
has grown from less than 500 in the inaugural year to
over 125,000 in 2007.
Idex was conceived in 1984 by St. Paul Insurance
Company Claim Supervisor Tom Rogers. The concept was
born out of the frustration that Tom, along with the
attorneys and paralegals he was working with, had
when trying to find information on expert
witnesses. The basic premise was to create a network
of insurance companies, law firms
and self insured corporations who could contribute
to and mutually benefit from a database of information
on experts who were testifying in all types of cases
throughout the country.
The business started slowly and grew as the databases
expanded both from clients contributing information
and from Idex's efforts in gathering information from
public sources. For the first several years, the only
service offered by the company was what it termed "Testimonial
History". Later, other services such as professional
disciplinary actions taken against an expert, articles
authored by an expert and articles in which an expert's
name has appeared, were added. In addition to these
"expert specific" searches, Idex began to offer scientific
and medical literature searches, similar case searches
and expert referral services. Finally, Idex continues
to add thousands of documents each year to its library
of over 80,000 depositions, trial transcripts and C.V.s.
The company's goal is to maintain its high level of
personal service, continue to utilize technology in
order to better serve clients and continue to pursue
new services deemed valuable.
