The Collaborative Network
for Expert Witness Research

IDEX Services

Testimonial History Search:
This service provides information on previous cases in which the expert may have given trial or deposition testimony. Over 6,000 records are added each month to a database of over one million records of expert involvement. If you are needing expert witness transcripts, this is your best starting point.

Depositions, Transcripts, CV's:
In many instances, full text copies of the expert's testimony and other documents may be available directly from Idex. All documents can be viewed and downloaded directly from this site at a reduced price. When Idex is unable to provide a copy of a transcript, other members of the network are usually willing to send you what you need.

Transcript Procurement:
If Idex has not stored a transcript you need, we can attempt to gather copies of transcripts listed on the Testimonial History report from other law firms.

State License Discipline Search:
Idex has created its own internal database of experts who have been reviewed and disciplined by jurisdictional licensing boards. We also utilize other services to uncover details which may be helpful to know.

Articles Naming the Expert:
Would it be valuable to learn if an expert has ever been arrested, indicted or convicted of a serious crime or has ever been guilty of misfeasance, nonfeasance or malfeasance? We search information which has been gathered from thousands of newspapers throughout the world, and if there is something in an expert's background which might call the expert's character into question, this search can often reveal it.

Articles by the Expert:
Learning what the expert has written can be an important tool when cross examining the expert. This search provides abstracts of articles and/or books authored by the expert. Forty to eighty databases are typically searched, depending on the specialty of the expert.

Unidentified Expert Search:
If you are in a jurisdiction that limits discovery and you would like Idex to identify the opposing expert, we might be able to help. Provide us the information you have and we will take it from there.

Challenges to Exclude Expert Search:
It may be important to learn if the opposing expert or your expert has been prohibited from giving testimony. Increasingly the use of "Gatekeeping" cases, such as Daubert, Kumho, Frye, etc., are being used to challenge experts. When challenges are found, Idex will provide case details along with the briefs and opinion.

Similar Case Search:
Do you need to know about other cases involving hydraulic brake failure on large trucks or about the product design of a particular ladder manufacturer?
By virtue of its large database, Idex can often find cases with elements similar to your own on a national or state by state basis.

When Needing an Expert:
When you need an expert to represent your case, Idex can search its database of over 900,000 records of expert involvement and find an expert that can help you. Unlike typical expert referral agencies, we neither represent nor endorse any expert, thus allowing our data to be unbiased. We could provide the expert's testimonial history report which can enable you to discuss the expert with other attorneys who have faced or used the expert.

Scientific or Medical Literature Search:
Idex can provide you with abstracts of articles on particular medical or scientific topics. For example, Idex provided abstracts and articles to the prosecution in the O.J. Simpson case regarding the blood preservative "EDTA" and also on the topic of "Batterer Profiling". Idex also supplied medical literature searches on "breast implants" for the defense firm assigned in the first class action suit.
